Hi. We had a party. I am drunk, full, and we had the cops called on us which whoa.

It was sorta awesome.

ETA: oh dude. I was wondering. Why I couldn't find Doctor Who tonight and where all the reviews were.

I just realized it's Friday, not Saturday.

The Big Read thinks the average adult has only read six of the top 100 books they've printed below.

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicise those you intend to read
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them.

1 Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen
2 The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien
3 Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte
4 Harry Potter series - JK Rowling
5 To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee
6 The Bible
7 Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte
8 Nineteen Eighty Four - George Orwell
9 His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman
10 Great Expectations - Charles Dickens
11 Little Women - Louisa M Alcott
12 Tess of the D'Urbervilles - Thomas Hardy
13 Catch 22 - Joseph Heller
14 Complete Works of Shakespeare
15 Rebecca - Daphne Du Maurier
16 The Hobbit - JRR Tolkien
17 Birdsong - Sebastian Faulks
18 Catcher in the Rye - JD Salinger
19 The Time Traveller's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger
20 Middlemarch - George Eliot
21 Gone With The Wind - Margaret Mitchell
22 The Great Gatsby - F Scott Fitzgerald
23 Bleak House - Charles Dickens
24 War and Peace - Leo Tolstoy
25 The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
26 Brideshead Revisited - Evelyn Waugh
27 Crime and Punishment - Fyodor Dostoyevsky
28 Grapes of Wrath - John Steinbeck
29 Alice in Wonderland - Lewis Carroll
30 The Wind in the Willows - Kenneth Grahame
31 Anna Karenina - Leo Tolstoy
32 David Copperfield - Charles Dickens
33 Chronicles of Narnia - CS Lewis
34 Emma - Jane Austen
35 Persuasion - Jane Austen
36 The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe - C.S.
Pride

I was going to do this as a bullet point list, but. Just not going to work without a lot of digression so I'm just going to make this a long post and write between rp reps.

So. We got up at 6 am and got to the store at 7 am. We'd made tee shirts the day before that said Pandora's Box Staff. It was kind of cool. I'm going to wear it often. Kent, Nikki, and David were meant to be there at 8. Kent called and said they'd be there between 8:15 and 8:30. They arrived at 9:11. Emily got there a little later, Jimmy...oh god, I have no idea when Jimmy got there. He's unobtrusive, yet awesome. So anyway. We had some people in all morning, we sold boas and pride stuff mostly, then came the parade. The parade rocked. I only saw parts of it though. I got some pictures, then I had to go inside because it got busy. It was so hot.

Kent wasn't. Listening to me or mom, he let a piece of art get damaged, and he wouldn't stay in his assigned room. And he was slurring, and touching the customers and just. His medicine made him look like he was strung out and made him act like it. Like. Getting in customer's faces and talking about what they were getting. With the toys. Yeah. Not cool. And he started telling the customers he has a brain tumor (he doesn't). We kept asking if he wanted to go home, if he'd go home, and finally, mom just told him to go. Because we had to assign him a minder, his minder wasn't. Minding very well, and I had to keep going back and keeping Kent from telling totally wrong things and scaring the customers. And we had him back there in the first place so he could sit where it was cool; he couldn't sit in the front because he can't run the register.

Anyway. That sucked. Mom made him go home.

He brought his two friends with him.

Leaving us with 6 people, including two minors. For three rooms and an outside booth. And roughly 10 people at a time in the store at the slowest, and 70 at the fastest. We do not have ROOM for that many people, seriously.

Fortunately, two guys that we knew vaguely stayed and just. Stepped up to the plate in major, major ways. They were amazing and saved our asses. Because we were PACKED until 4 pm when they packed up the street festival. It was just. Exhausting in major ways.

We came home at 10pm and I fell asleep in my CHAIR.

Then we went back to work this morning at 12. Sold some more stuff. And now I am not moving for the next two days except to go to the bank to deposit money tomorrow morning.

Cookie Man

I was telling Liz that today is cookie day and I realized that I have not talked about the cookie man. The cookie man? The cookie man.

The cookie man is a small, thin boned man in his late 40s with a huge smile and shoulder length silver hair. He comes to my work every Wednesday, in the late afternoon, with a basket over his forearm.

Filled with cookies. Little brown paper packets with five huge cookies inside, moist and delicious and a red plate with samples; so you know which cookies are best for you that day.

There are old standbys: chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin. Then there are the creative ones; peanutbutter cookies with a jam center, heath bar cookies.

He sells us his cookies with a smile and sometimes, a little song, then goes on his way while the storm rolls in behind him, lightening flashing across the gray sky.

Though, I'll be fair, it storms every afternoon here: that's how we know it's summer. He comes from Katie's Bakery, in Clearwater, and makes deliveries up and down the Gulf coast in Pinellas. It's kind of awesome.

I'm going to call these 3/4 drabbles since they're each exactly 75 words.

150 words of disconnected, not fluffy Jack/Ianto.

IE: My brain was floating at work.

Jack sleeps, belly down on the bed, face pressed into his crossed arms. Totally exposed. It’s not the defensive position Jack slept in the first few times Ianto shared his bed, coiled and ready to spring into motion at the least provocation. It wasn’t until he stopped doing it that Ianto recognized it for what it was, feeling oddly, obliquely flattered. He hadn’t felt like a threat the first few times he shared Jack’s bed.

Ianto writes on Jack’s skin when Jack sleeps, scrawling figures, times, dates, fragments of events- keywords to memory. Paper burns, tears, decays. Computer files melt, fry, disappear, break. Jack’s skin though, that’s permanent, eternal and unchanging. Even when the shower floor is stained black with Ianto’s ink each morning, Ianto knows his words are etched somewhere in Jack, scrawled in tiny, pink lines into Jack’s muscle like a memory and so they’re never ever lost.

I think I just nailed my personality.

Also so hi, my name is Mecca, think of me as a cocker spaniel. Shy, neurotic and I pee on the floor until I'm comfortable and then I jump all over you. Minus the peeing on the floor bit. I go with inappropriate public declarations instead.

Opinions of people who have read Phantom of the Opera, re: The character of Raoul.

Was he really a 12 year old girl or do I need to reread? Because. Yeah, 12 year old girlish is my memory of it.

Okay so. In Florida. Lizards are as common as, say, moths. They're everywhere, all the time. You can't keep them out of the house, and they're always running around.

I went outside to get my mom a pack of cigarettes from the car. I shut the door behind me. I came back in and a lizard fell on my head.

I screamed, shook, run away, and threw the cigarettes at my mom. Looked and told her she had to handle that because I sure as fuck couldn't. Because it was an eviscerated lizard.

I, apparently, shut the door on him on my way out.

Homg.
Homg.
Homg.
I showered.
Homg.
Scrubbed.
Homg.
